We were in the dive boat w/ Jason from Fantaseadive just south of Playa near Xcaret on 12/6/07 getting ready to dive Barracuda reef when we heard someone yell "whale shark." We looked in the water and sure enough, there it was, about 8 feet long at the surface only 30 feet from us. There were 5 other boats from other dive op's anchored also and everybody starting jumping in to the water to try to get a closer look. Boats were quickly pulling anchors to go after it. It disappeared in a few seconds but quite a great 30 second experience!!
Man talk about havin' some luck....they've usually migrate down towards the Honduras by this time. Guess the lil bugger got lost!
