Nice job.

Watching the video it certainly looks like she was "waiting" for help. I know it's easy to personify animal behavior but it's hard not to notice that she swoops in and seems to stop beside the snorkeller and she is barely moving compared to the other mantas and certainly make no attempt to flee when you swim down to her, grab the line and hack it off.
 
Who knows...The logical part of me says the way the rope was cutting into her had to terribly painful and any contact with it would cause her to pause. While they are very tough creatures we were worried about sending her into shock due to the pain.

As mentioned we did see her swim off with good form. We kept an eye out for her the rest of the day but did not see her again.
