Dear DUI,
I wanted to let you know how much I love the TLS350 Signature Series, which you helped me design early this year. I'm sure you get many emails, but I was the PADI instructor who was involved in a car accident that injured my neck and right shoulder which limited my neck mobility to get into traditional "contortionist suits". You spent a lot of time helping me to pick the perfect suit, then helped me design it with the extra torso extension, choosing the classic zipper to account for my torn rotator cuff and down to the finishing touches like the Tough Duck Royal Blue accent color that you chose for me.
I can't begin to rave at how much I love the suit as it a drysuit of many "firsts" for me since being certified in 1998. It's the first time that I can "self-don" and remove a front entry suit, which gives me the freedom that I have never had before and doesn't force me to rely on new open water students to ensure my zipper is done up. I'm amazed at how smooth the zipper works compared to my other drysuits. I also noticed with the light material of the TLS 350 that I am far less fatigued as I am carrying less drysuit weight yet I am still toasty warm. It is so incredibly comfortable that it feels like I'm in a track suit. As an additional bonus, I was able to drop 6 lbs of weight (I used to dive 20 lbs with a steel tank but now I'm at 14 lbs) due to the streamlined design. Additionally, for the first time EVER since I'm quite small (5'1), I have been able to dive with dry hands through your zip glove system. I really like the zip seal designs and your online videos, including the how to don a suit with zip gloves, are awesome.
I hear a lot dive folks (professional and recreational) commenting on the "high" price of DUI -- that you're just paying for the name and that there is no difference in quality compared to other top of the line drysuits -- and to be quite honest, I came to DUI initially only for the extending torso and to get a custom suit and was slightly skeptical in the investment based on the gossip. Boy, was I wrong! To my surprise, what I got was the best piece of dive gear that I have ever owned. I do believe that this suit has extended my teaching career in diving. So, I now tell the naysayers that a DUI is worth every cent as the quality is impeccable and you really do get what you pay for. Having a DUI isn't just a "status symbol", rather it truly is the best suit ever made and I highly recommend getting a DUI to everyone who is seriously thinking of investing in a new drysuit. After months of diving in silty cold water in the Rocky Mountains, the suit still looks new like it did when it came out of the box.
As an aside, while I teach in Calgary during the summer (40 to 60 F), I am thinking of taking my DUI to Maui with me on vacation this winter. Call me a wimp, but the TLS350 is lighter in weight compared to my 5 mm wetsuit plus I am getting spoiled diving dry and love to stay warm.
My DUI has really been a gamechanger for me. Thanks again for all your help. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been as wonderful if you hadn't taken the time to help me. It is perfect in every way!
Yours very truly,
Helen Chang
