I have a Canon G11 in an ikelite housing and use a WD-4 wide angle dome.

I am trying to decide which strobe to get to complement this setup. The choice is between a DS51 and DS160. I see that Ikelite recommend the DS160 for use with the wide angle port.

The angle of coverage that they claim for the DS51 should be sufficient for the 28mm wide angle lens coverage, so I am wondering two things: does this imply either a drop off in light at the edges of the strobes coverage? or is the claimed angle of coverage of the DS51 "optimistic"?

Does anyone use this combination of lens and strobe? Can you post some pictures that illustrate how the two work together?

Thanks and regards
Sean

Assuming a lens coverage angle of 75 degrees, the DS51 will handle 70 degrees or 80 with the diffuser installed. Without the diffuser you will probably see a little light fall off dependent on the strobe position relative to the camera lens. Note that you will lose approx. one f-stop of light with the diffuser installed. With that said, the DS51 should be adequate for subjects within 3 feet.
If it's within your budget, there are many advantages of moving up to the DS160 strobe. Some of those being a 1.5 second recycle time, a 5 watt LED modeling/focusing light, a true 160
watt-seconds of power, and a 90 degree angle of coverage (100 degree w/diffuser installed) to name a few: IKELITE Substrobe DS160 digital.
