WATER IN THE EARS

I seem to easily get water stuck in my right ear continuously. Started with my first OW class and continued through my OW dives. I've put drops of alcohol and white vinegar in my ear and it remains plugged. No pain, just plugged.

Any suggestions????

Go to a doctor, preferably an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist who is familiar with the physiology of scuba diving.

Hi Sheryl, Please let me know if you get anywhere with your ears. I am on my third prescription of antibiotics and plan to call a specialist tomorrow. I got really dizzy on my last dive and had to quit for a while.

Hi Dawn,

I picked up an over the counter solution called Auro Dri. Although I'm not sure it helped any better than vinegar/alcohol. I have not dived since...waiting for my dry suit to arrive. If you are still dizzy, I would definately plan to see a specialist. Sorry I don't have any better suggestions for you. Good luck, I hope that you get that cleared up and are able to comfortably get back into the water. Keep me posted.

Hi Sheryl,
I used that Auro in between my last dives and my ear became hot. Thought I had better hold off trying it again. I have an appointment this week with a specialist. Third dose of antibiotics and I feel like it's getting worse again. I'll keep you up to date. I can't get in soon enough. Would have gone already but new grandson came along during my dizziest week! Helping take care of him was worth the wait.
My husband is anxious to get me back in the water so that I can finish my certification.

There is a very obvious and comfortable solution for all of you that (for a very good reason) do not want water in your ears.

It is the ProEar 2000 mask which was purposely designed to do away with water in the ears.

There's a shop in Cincinnati that recently stocked a few of the Pro Ear Mask and sold out. His clients love it! He gets more in next week and I want to take a look at it. I've been to a second ENT Doc and he says that I must have a weak eustachian tube so I'm going to have to take it slow, but I'm ready to get back in the water. Got ear drops with hydrocortisone and acetic acid. Much easier on the ear and won't dry it out. If anyone has tried this mask, let me know. I'm curious as to how you handle removing and clearing this mask with ear pieces.

Stick a vacume cleaner in your ear.. LOL.. Dont try this at home kids.. sounds like it would work but I cant take credit for it since i've never tried it before..

You might want to try vented ear plugs. I have some and really like them as I too have problems with my ears. Make sure they are VENTED!! They have saved lots of dives for me.

Well, the new dive instructor wouldn't let me finish my last two dives since I was having ear problems and trying out my "New Mask". But he took me down to 20 ft, practiced clearing my mask and then went swimming for 18 minutes. I just love this new mask. It makes clearing my ears so much easier. And, the pressure in my left ear was never there! My ears were always comfortable. The cold water never had a chance to mess things up for me! My husband was so relieved! I can't say enough about it. I'm hoping to go to Gilboa Guarry in Ohio next weekend and finish up! What a relief! My ear problem has been a nightmare for me. Oh, I'm still seeing a specialist, but I believe that I now have hope and won't have to quit!
