I have forgotten details about all but the most common types of squeezes and reverse blocks because havent had problems this far. This weekend something happened that I was not quite sure how to explain and mend, so it makes me uncomfortable.
On Saturday I was ascending after a dive, and at about 20-15ft when we were making safety I had this sudden bang of pain in my head. It was quite intense like ice pick (or rather forceps) crammed into my skull. This is the first time I ever felt (momentarily) that wow something like this could lead to a black-out. The pain was worst right above my ears and a bit towards the back, and I felt it on both sides. Another pair of points was more towards forehead on temples, and to top it of one more point midline right above forehead.
I didnt really think of descending as much as ascending because of the unreal feeling the pain gave me which of course made me think its ear related even though I didnt feel it in ears. The pain did not increase as I got up and when I surfaced it reduced and vanished. We crawled over a rock wall to continue towards the shore but I could not descend any more than 3 feet without my head exploding. (Plan was to go under for another 10 mins to avoid choppy surface swim).
The profile of the dive was easy. We did max 25ft approach dive (15 min) to get past the rock wall where one has to surface anyway. I had trouble with my mask during this part of the dive and had to come up 3-4 times. After that we decided to skip the planned wall dive to 70ft, and just do a 45ft max for 40 mins, and reserve extra air for the trip back to shore, so I can keep wasting it on my mask.
I am sure my head didnt like the up-and-down profile but could this be trapped air if it resolved like this? What else could it be? I have been snorting Nasonex for about 2 weeks because stuffiness, thats a new thing on my menu. The only other time in my life Ive taken it I had no problems but I wasnt diving. My ears have been giving me trouble for a month now, and that has not been helped with new mask keeping my nostrils half-filled. Overall, clearing has been more sluggish and Ive called off a dive or two because of pressure feeling in ear/s. They been quickly checked for infections none. Since starting Nasonex I havent taken any Alavert/Sudafed that I tried earlier because I dont like mixing stuff. I did take a couple of Mucinex earlier in the week to loosen up the gunk that Nasonex was bringing up though.
Anybody experience this/experienced in this?
