Looks and sounds like it was a nurse shark hickey. Kudos to him for not freaking out about it - no points to whoever wrote the article for not doing their homework. Most people aren't going to get past the "bitten by shark" headline and imagine he fought off Jaws.

The article I read quoted Sapp as saying that, when he was bitten, he threw the "respirator" out of his mouth and made a dash to the surface. You might need to retract the kudos.

Not to mention he went back into the water for more diving. I wonder if he went somewhere and got it checked. I would hate to be the one with the prospect of suturing that up. After hours in the water its nothing but a petri dish.
