What happens when the dive shop you bought your gear from goes under? Assuming that receipts have not been kept, where does that leave you getting things serviced at other dive shops. Are they going to consider them grey goods? Reason I ask is that I noticed the dive shop I bought some stuff from in Louisiana no longer exists and it is coming up to time to get my annual servicing. I have been in NY for less than a year and have not had anything serviced before.

Hopefully you have your service record. All the gear I have that requires servicing annyally to keep up any warrantee came with a little record book the shop fills out yearly

Even if you don't have the records, most dive shops in my experience will be happy to service your gear for a fair price if they carry that brand or can get parts for it.

Without receits or some other acceptable proof of purchase or service, you are at the mercy of the LDS.

awap:
Without receits or some other acceptable proof of purchase or service, you are at the mercy of the LDS.
True, but any LDS that wants you as a customer will likely not be merciless. I don't have a warranty or proof of purchase for any of the gear I have serviced yearly, and it's never been a problem. If the shop you go to wants to bust your nuts about it, go somewhere else.

Great approach, Matt. What major brands do you carry?
