I dive both dry and wet. When I dive dry I often need more weight than my integrated BC can hold.

For instance last week I dove dry with a double lined fleece jumper in cold salt water. I needed over 30 lbs to get down. This meant I needed to put weight both in my BC and on a belt. Well the belt caused some problems and at one point came off and I had an uncontrolled ascent from 14 feet. Luckily this was at the end of the dive and only 14 feet.

Well I don't want to ever have that happen again. I've scouted the forums and see that one of the first things I need to do is ditch the plastic buckle on my belt. The second thing - and what I think is the better long term option - is to get a harness.

So can somebody recommend a particular harness as well as a good location to buy one?

Also, is it easy for me to replace the plastic belt buckle or should I just buy a new belt?

Thanks in advance.

I've been using the DUI Weight and Trim System II harness for a few years. I love it. It's well-designed and easy to use. You will find it on the web for under $100.(Google it). Absolutely brilliant piece of gear. You won't use a belt again...

Another vote for the w&t II - I love mine! Even with 30 lbs in it, I forget I have it on sometimes.

One of my dive buddies has the classic, and doesn't like that the straps cross higher across his shoulders...it puts pressure on his neck. I did not find this to be a problem, but that's me. It's something to think about. If you can find both to try on with weights in it, I recommend that before you buy.
