Started freediving and spearfishing this year and want to take some photos and videos of the activity underwater. I pretty much only do beach dives and haven't gone deeper than 35' yet. I would like to record some of the fish I am shooting. I have a rob allen 1100, and it seems like it might be difficult to mount a camera to the gun that wouldn't interfere with loading the bands. I started researching some cameras and found an olympus that can go to 33' without an underwater case - any comments on that type of camera? Without a gun mount what is a good way to record while shooting the gun? Does a helmet cam make sense? Like the gopro cameras?

Would like to hear some recommendations on how I should start getting some underwater footage of my shots (on a tight budget).

Thanks

canon A570IS with canon or inon housing. ultralight control systems arms, trays, mounts. i can't offer any real tips on mounting it to a gun, but that's a great system for the money you pay. it does video (up to 60fps) and stills.

good luck

.. I have a rob allen 1100,...

Pipe and rail guns can't be drilled as you can guess, so that means you are limited to a clamp. I have a mid-handle so it has a rear end to clamp my video camera. This setup may work for you if you are freediving and loading your gun while doing your breathe up.

In theory, I would guess you could take off the clamp, chest load the bands and then re-attach the clamp so you are ready to hit the record button and begin video as you sink to the target. My only concern would be to not lose the camera while on the surface since it may be negative so maybe a mini bungie attached to the gun.

For what it's worth, here is my cheap clamp system that I use and you may be able to modify. Also I like any of the Canon Powershot series which will produce smooth video output in a very tiny package for about $400+ on Amazon, case and cam included.

Are you looking to have more photos or more videos? What is your budget?

I do not recommend the cameras without the housings. I am working on a few solutions for customers right now that want to rig up their guns. PM me your email address and I will add you to the email that we are preparing regarding this topic.

ended up going with the gopro wide 5mp camera for $132 shipped with 2 GB memory. Mostly interested in video footage. it's cheap and will let me know if this is something I want to get into and invest more $$$. Havent received it or determined how I will mount it to the gun yet.
