So, we have a work meeting in Cancun this spring :D (we couldn't sway them to Cozumel :( ).

What's the best way to piggy back a dive trip with this work trip?

- fly to Coz after the mtg?
- ferry to Coz after the mtg?
- stay in Cancun or Playa and dive from there?

It seems to me, that it'd be ideal to fly into Cancun for the mtg, get to Coz, pick up my wife at Coz airport and both fly back from there.

Open to ideas!

This is an ideal option and easy to do. Don't count on a flight from Cancun to Cozumel though. They are sporadic at best. Even with a confirmed reservation, the flights are often canceled and you end up on the ferry anyway. So once you're finished with Cancun, make your way to Cozumel and spend as much time as you can here.

Sweet! Bookmark saved.

We were making plans for a Coz trip this spring anyway. Having my company pay for the flight is a nice bonus! :eyebrow:

It might be expensive to fly into Cancun and out from Cozumel, though, since it's not a round trip ticket any more.

Probably. Maybe I'll fly into Coz, ferry over to Cancun and ferry back after the meeting. Especially since Frontier now flies direct from Denver to Coz.

Sounds like I'll need to spend some time researching these options. Sure beats working!

Hey Gordon,

Surprise!!! Most airlines consider into Cancun out of Cozumel a round trip!!! I've don this several times especially when heading down on a week day. You know how there are few flights to Coz!

Her is what AA told me. The price of the ticket is determined on the first leg of the trip. Hence more flights to Cancun from multiple airlines drives the price down and Coz is within 50 miles so the return out of Coz is a legal RT.

Example: Last year in Jan. RT Chicago-Cancun on AA was 349. RT to Coz was 529. Rt Chicago-Cancun/Coz to Chicago was 359. I couldn't believe it!! I just happened to find this out 3 years ago and been checking this ever since and must have done it 4 times now.

Here's another. Check one ways. Sometimes that works well to. I've got a ticket for 3-29-08 one way to Coz on US Air return on 4-4-08 on USA3000 for less than the RT on any airline. And it allows me great times. The return on US Air was at noon but the USA3000 is at 9PM. An extra fine lunch and dinner in Coz.

Very cool; I didn't know about that. Was there any problem with Mexican Immigration with you coming in as a tourist on a one way flight?

No problem with immigration. Actually it is the airline you fly down on that checks to make sure you have a return ticket before they let you on the plane. Most people don't know the rule is under 30 days all you need is a return ticket to get into Mexico because the airline sees the return ticket in your itinerary. They get big fines if they let you on the plane without a return or a visa. They don't care if it's on another airline or from different city as long as you have a return ticket or a different visa. For stays longer than 30 days you need a visa, in this case you don't need the return ticket.
