Got back last week from a great 10 days at Wakatobi. Their reefs are so healthy, so interesting I got a little carried away shooting all vertical wide angle shots. Plus by far the best viz we have had anywhere. So sorry for the shots being all alike.

Beautiful, Martin. Another trip we'll have to take.

Alike in the sense that they're all beautifully composed? Don't apologize. :D

Wow, what a great set of pics! What camera do you use? What wide angle lens did you use?

Regards,

Bill

Thanks, the great thing about Wakatobi is anything you shoot will be set against an incredible background. No hunting around for a spot and hoping something swims into the frame.

I shoot a Nikon D200 in an Aquatica housing. These shots were taken with the Tokina 10-17mm, which has become my favorite lens. In fact I only took it off to add a 1.4 telecoverter to it to shoot "wide angle macro". On this trip I probably only shot my 60mm on 3-4 dives. The underwater gallery is up at our site for those interested.

It kind of sucks that lionfish have lost their charm now that they're as ubiquitous as rats--they make great photo subjects.

My dive buddy and I have also been thinking hard about going to Wakatobi. It is a looooooong trip to get there. I would also like to know if it was worth the pain to get there. How you felt about the rooms and food.

Regards,

Bill

We thought the rooms and food were great. Unless you require absolutely 5-star silver spoon treatment and meals, I can't imagine you would be dissatisfied with either. And if you want the 5-star room, that's there too. Tip: I think the rooms, other than the villas, are much nicer south of the dining room.
