WV DEP Environmental Enforcement Dive Team Vacancy:

The Environmental Enforcement Section is interested in filling two slots on the WVDEP Dive Team. One of these two openings is for an alternate diver. These positions are volunteer only and interested persons must be full time employees of the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection. Environmental Enforcement background is preferred, but not required.

Requirements for eligibility are: Current SCUBA Certification and current First Aid and CPR. Each candidate must provide copies of up-to date Dive Logs, be in good health and physical condition, and have written approval from his/her immediate supervisor.

Interested divers do not need to have their own equipment. The alternate diver will have the same responsibilities as the rest of the dive team members.

Dive Team participants are involved in investigation, sampling, enforcement, monitoring, and exploration of the water resources of the state. Some examples of past dives and events include:
Remediation follow-up for industry along the Ohio River and Kanawha Rivers
Investigation of the condition of small dams (Wells Lock and Dam at Elizabeth)
Mussel surveys in conjunction with WV DNR Biologists
Assistance in locating discharge diffusers for Industry along the Ohio River
Exhibits for WV DEP Day at the Legislature
Training dives, safety training, and equipment maintenance workshops are held periodically throughout the year.

Interested persons should send copies of all dive certifications, letter of approval from supervisor, and copies of dive logs to: Debbie Keener, Environmental Enforcement, PO Box 662, Teays, WV 25569 by OCTOBER 22, 2010 AT 3:00PM. Interviews will be scheduled for candidates who have sent the required information. Be certain to include a current address and up-to date telephone number or numbers where you may be reached.
NOTE: An interview will not be granted without an approval letter from the candidate’s supervisor.

If you have questions or need additional information, please call 304-757-1693.
