Man, I never cease to be amazed at how much information can be gleaned from Scubaboard. I want to thank all of you, I just downloaded Audacity and will start playing with it tonight. Marshallkarp, thank you very much for the example, that is almost *exactly* what I'm looking to do. We went to Fiji and some of the shapes of the fish were similar to the Caribbean varieties but the colors were different and absolutely amazing. I want to classify them without having to use Photoshop to put text all over my pics to identify what they are.
Hopefully when I'm done I'll post some examples!

BTW, Rick Inman, there IS a neighbor's dog I'd like to shoot but I think I'll just take that suggestion lightly, lol!

Rick is right, there will be background noise, and I have a fairly isolated room. I went over to the music store and bought some 12x12 pieces of acoustic foam and lined a cardboard box with them, similar to what is seen in this article. You don't have to isolate the whole room, just the microphone. Add the pop filter, and you have yourself a voiceover studio for about $20 (not including the electronic stuff).

Diverdowndh,

Everyone's advice is good...

Rick Inman's is GREAT !
follow all of his steps.

Go for it buddy, you will have fun...don't worry about being cheesy, who cares,
this stuff is for you anyways...
Check out what I did with some of my home videos,
you will like them (videos 1,2 & 6 have narration)

Yes...he is a pro, and lucky for me, a friend of mine.
Glad you liked the videos, and good luck with yours !!!!!

I'm having so much fun with this. I bought the Vegas 6.0 with CD creator and this stuff is just the coolest. Nice vids btw Bill!

My last video I experimented with voice over/narration for the 1st time. I hate the sound of my voice, but I think it does add to the quality of the video and it keeps the attention of the viewer.

The on cam mic works, but like everyone says, it's not the best way to go. Wind and background noise is also a killer that I didn't realize how bad it was until I watched my finished video with the audio fed to my A/V receiver.

ronscuba, and diverdowndh

Nice video, first up. I really think voiceovers are the way to go as the essence of filmmaking is story telling. So you really want to tell a story. There is a time and a place for a 30 second or 60 second with music background only clip, but if you want to get and hold other's interest, tell your story.

As for the voiceover technique, we can learn alot from watching Sea Hunt episodes, for example, this:

YouTube - SEA HUNT "The Stunt" part I

As most of the action takes place underwater.
