Hello. We are fairly certain we are going to Ambergris Caye in May of 2011. We are new divers, only one trip so far to Cozumel.

Can anyone tell me what the diving conditions are off of Ambergris Caye, as far as visibility, water depth, and what to expect overall? We're looking to do some easier, shallow dives (less than 70ft), and really hope for good visibility.

Thanks for anyone who can help.

We just got back from AC last Saturday. The vis is great and the reefs seem to be in good health. The terrain is mostly finger and groove with the grooves being almost vertical to an average depth of around 90'. You will be diving with a group and if you don't want to go deeper than 70', not a problem. Just hang back and shallower than the dive master. The vis is good enough that you will not lose him.

Dove with both Ecologic and Island Divers. Island Divers will get all my business on our next trip. We felt that the surface intervals with Ecologic were too short and were running out of bottom time on the second dive. In addition, Island Divers is significantly less expensive than Ecologic.
