Hi to all! I'm fairly new to underwater photography (and this is my first post here) and want to broaden my horizons a bit towards video. Many of the housings I've seen for consumer-grade cameras use a mirror to bring the side-mounted viewfinder image back to where it can be seen behind the camera. Are there any cameras that will reverse the viewfinder image so that aiming is more intuitive? I did try a topic search but didn't come up with anything - maybe it's my lack of high school English skills. A point in the right direction would be most welcomed. Leaning towards Canon HDV, maybe Sony but am open to any suggestions. Thanks!

The Ikelite housings are the only ones I know of with a side mirror where image might be reversed. That is because some camcorders don't have a LANC plugin. Those camcorders that do have it, most Sonys, have the "reverse circuitry" feature which enables the image to be reversed back to normal.
Look at the Ikelite website IKELITE Underwater Systems
to see if the camcorder you have or are looking to buy has this feature. Ikelite makes housings for Sony, Canon, and JVC.. some of the JVC and Canon camcorders have the ability to open the screen for viewing inside of housing so no mirror is necessary. All the new HD Sony camcorders use the mirror with the reverse circuitry. I personally wouldn't get a housing if your image is going to be reversed. That would drive me crazy!!

Took the plunge and got the Sony SR12 bundled with Vegas Pro 8 s/w from B&H. Think it's the right choice and I get to play with it all weekend to find out! For the housing I got the HD6 from Equinox. The LCD on back ought to help with the framing, though I think it's a bit small. I'll look at adapting a larger one later, there ought to be something I can order from Frys. Thanks for all your help - this board is the best!
