This is a short raw video of marine life on the reefs of Palancar Gardens,
I hope that this video will help to get a better idea of what Cozumel can offer.
Is not what used to be but still a great place to dive.
Feel free to ask me any questions.
Paul

Nice video. Although a bit sandy, nice marine life. In 43 seconds there was a turtle, puffers, two kinds of angelfish, a grouper, and others. What more could you ask for in less than a minute. Those that said there was no marine life anymore on the "other" posts, ought to have been at the Gardens!

Thanks Paulpost,
Matt

Hey Matt...the whole area doesn't look like that..this looks to me like the edge of the reef somewhere at the ocean floor...this looks like Las Palmas to me...or possible Paso del Cedral...am I correct Paul?

People need to remember that the ocean floor has ALWAYS been sand and when you're on the edge of the reef...those little coral heads have always been sandy in a way. I know it's hard to tell in this video...but I relaly wish I could take video of the walls and Palancar...I dove there again today and I was truly astounded at the color! It was truly beuatiful and the vis was phenomenal once again...with blue, blue water!

I'm starting another thread with some of today's pictures!

This video is GREAT for showing the marine life...thank you Paul!

Wow Paul! Thanks for sharing that video! That doesnt look like anything I remember from diving Coz. It is a shame really...all that effort about protecting divers from the reefs and a couple storms come in and do that much damage. I am truly saddened today.

It's a 10 sec. video clip of the fringe of the reef... how can anybody make any sweeping claims about damage from just this one video?

If the turtle happened to be eating a sponge on the wall, people would be singing a different tune.

I've been trying to keep out of these "damage" threads but they are getting OLD. The video was posted as a positive...

I posted my thoughts in my trip report from Feb. and called it like I saw it. Yes, there is some damage but it's not going to stop me from going... and if you are a "glass half full" kinda person (as opposed to all the "half empty" people out there) it shouldn't stop you from going either.

BTW - Thanks for posting it Paul

I dont know Moodie. It is a 43 second clip though. The fish on the video just looked to be lost not knowing what happened to their glorious homes. That turtle looked as if he was choking on sand.

I had a trip booked to Coz for this April, but I think I am going to go to Bonaire instead.

Do not get disappointed is still allot to see in Coz, I don't know about Bonaire but if it was a British colony I'm sure the area is over fished check the video of cayman islands on this forum.

I apologise for the mistake, as Christi figured out this was from the second dive which was Paso de Cedral the shallow one, first dive was Palancar Gardens, I hope that everybody will see the glass half full not half empty. As Christi said do not think that all the reefs are the same, I will post another video clip from the other dives. My intention was to show that the marine life is still abundant in-spite of the damage that the shallow reefs suffered.
Paul

For goodness sake, the turtle is eating like they do any time. It looks like the way they always eat. There are plenty of fish doing what they always do, swimming around! And, it's the bottom of the ocean where there's always sand. This is no wall where the sand wouldn't be hanging around!!!!!!!!!! If you took a video of Paso del Cedral or Tormentos any day of any year it would look the same. If you want to see pretty coral and sponge, get close to the wall or up off of the bottom.

Oops,

My last post came in before I saw Paulpost's second post here, See, it was Paso Del Cedral which looks like this all of the time!
