I know the idea of doing boat dives in Bonaire is very controversial - some people always do a boat dive each day, most people don't do any boat dives. This video gives you an idea of the reasons why everyone should do a few. The topography at Klein Bonaire is different than the mainland and also some sites we dove, like Rappel, must be done by boat as there is no shore entry to the area. Karpata can be done by shore, but we did it by boat. The DMs are really good at showing everyone seahorses and frogfish at every site as they know where they are! Since we were in Bonaire, staying at Buddy's with a group of photo/video geeks from Reef Photo, we had our own boat all week. :D
(note all the big camera rigs by the other divers! The DM and boat capt laughed at us each day saying that the cameras onboard were worth more than the boat! LOL)

Great video Robin. You are very good at finding small critters. Your videos are giving my eyes a critter locating tune up just before I leave for a week on Bonaire Feb. 28.

May I assume that you are using natural light, with some sort of compensating filter, for your videos? Or do you white balance at depth?

I don't see why you consider boat diving there to be controversial. Bonaire provides dives venues for all tastes. No need to apologize for your preferences. Don't let anybody challenge your preferences, it was your trip, you paid for it.

Thanks everybody! :D

Yes, I used at camcorder with a red filter only and some slight white balancing in editing here at home. I have recently purchased a light rig to use with my new HD camcorder rig, whenever I get to buy it. ;)

I just meant that boat diving is controversial here on SB. So many people insist that you don't need to do any boat dives on Bonaire, and you don't NEED to do them. But I think while there everyone should do a few.
The dive site Rappel was one of the best dives I have ever done anywhere! And you can ONLY get there by boat. I don't know how much damage it got from the hurricane last summer, but when we dove it everyone got back on the the boat raving about it (and this was with a group of photographers who dive all over the world!) :D
Also, on one dive over to Klein Bonaire the DM showed us a yellow frogfish. While we all took turns photographing it one diver noticed a smaller black frogfish close to it. A mating pair!! (female frogfish are much larger than the males) It was sooooo cooool.
