I have just completed my confined water dive and am due to complete my opnen water dive for my certification in 10 days. I am very excited but also very nervous. Just wanted to stop in her and say thanks to everyone in advance for all the answering any stupid questions I most likely wil ask. I am in the St. Petersburg area and live 2 blocks off the beach so I think at 50 years old it is high time I dive in.
See you all on the bottom.

Hey, Jan... welcome to diving and to ScubaBoard! You are lucky to live in such a great location...

Safe diving!

Jan,
Don't let your nerves get the best of you. Relax, remember your training and enjoy the experience. The more you dive, the less you will be nervous as your experience increases! Just remember to never dive beyond your training and stay close to your buddy!

JUst relax and enjoy the experience. Once you start you will want to do it alot!! Only got my advanced open water a few weeks agoand already am signed up for the deep diver cert..

Well I had my OW dive certification dives this past weekend. I passed & am certified, but just barely I think. I had a full blown panic attack the first day & was not sure I was gonna make it! All we were doing was on our knees & doing our skills but I had to surface I felt like I couldn't breathe. I had a full tank but felt I just couldn't get enough air. Part of the problem was I was out of breath I think from swimming against the current in the river we were in. Also I didn't have enough weight so I had a hard time getting stable & being still under water. My dive master was so patient with me & got me through it.
The 2nd day was much better & i had enough weight this time. I am still scared I will panic again though. For some reason I find it hard to breathe only off the regulator. Any suggestions about how to keep from panicking under water???
Thanks,
Jan

50 Wow, why'd ya' wait so long I started in my fourties ok I was 49 ;). and 3 years later goin' strong .And surprisingly enough I'm still one of the "youngsters". Dont worry with more dives you'll relax more & the breathing will become second nature. And they always say as you become more experienced you'll drop weight a little and get it dialed in. And props to you you didnt give up and did both dive days.Dont stop , I look forward to seeing more post from you in the future.
