This report is way over due but wanted to finally get it completed.

Cozumel for 10 glorious days……hard to beat with a stick! Stayed at Fiesta Americana in the Casita suites. The facilities and service are quite nice for the prices charged. For diving, the southern hotel region is tough to beat due to proximity to the reefs we prefer to dive. With town only a short 60 pesos taxi ride away, we prefer to eat in town so the AI option is never utilized. However, with the Casita Suites package comes a Continental Breakfast each morning. This is extremely handy early in the morning since the restaurant is just across the street and only steps away from the pier where our DO picks us up.

MMMMMMMMMMM, diving, yea, that’s the ticket! Our DO of choice is Aldora. Been using them for a number of years and they never disappoint. Service is always perfect in our eyes. We were met at the airport by the Manager of Villa Aldora. His name escapes me but he and his wife are extremely nice. Our gear was placed in individually marked bags with our names so everything was ready for our dive in the am. All we needed to haul to the pier was ourselves and our wetsuits. Memo Mendoza in the office was very accommodating as well. He was always checking in to make sure our trip was going as planned. These guys really do a very nice job of going the extra mile.

Our first several days we dove with Mateo. The rest of the trip we dove with Luis. All the DM at Aldora have always been great but we thoroughly enjoyed Luis.

Eating establishments:
El Moro – This is a never miss for us twice on every trip. We have become friends with the owners son Ray. He is wonderful. The only thing we eat here is Zacharias Special for two. This is a must have.
Cocos – great breakfast. Super Tacos are quite good. You can also pick up a used paperback while your there.
LaChoza- also a never miss for us twice each trip. The owners brother takes care of us each time. The chocolate pie is out of this world. The orange hot sauce is incredible. Never leave without at least one quart for the casa. Check the specials off the menu, they will never disappoint. Great Wahoo steaks.
Ernestos Fajita Factory – We have breakfast here at least once usually twice. Always very good.
Casa Mission – We make this about every other trip. This past trip it was quite good. Can be hit and miss though.
Guidos – always very good. Wonderful puff style garlic bread that is very crisp.
Primas – Cant go to Coz without eating here at least twice. The only thing we order is the Lobster. Best we have had on the island and we have had it many places. Out of this world Key Lime Pie. Ask for Luis. Great waiter. Always takes care of us.
La Pearlita – outstanding, only way to explain it. Locals galore and the food is just, well its just great. We make this twice a trip as well.
El Museo – Great breakfast. Located on the lop floor of the museum

No one else on the reef at all. Reef was extremely vibrant with life and very healthy. Felt like I was in an aquarium. Marricabo Arch was really cool as well. Pretty deep dive for average diver but we had a great time. Had an 8 minute deco at end. Do it. You will not miss it again.

Mike,

Thanks for the detail on Marricabo. I will ask to do the dive when I go in March.

They won't just take you to Maracaibo Deep. You have to show them that you are a competent diver before they will take you that deep.

Quite true Tim. I was absent minded not to include that in the post. Hey, how was your trip? Hope all went well and looking forward to your report.

I'll add to this...it also depends on who else is diving that week. They need to get a qualified group together, ususally a minimum of four to cover the extra fuel costs to get out there and make it at least a break even for the op. Some ops actually charge extra to go beyond Palancar. Just something to keep in mind.

Mike, Where is La Pearita?

I assume you mean La Perlita (the little pearl). It's way back northeast of the center of town in a residential area, not really walking distance from the Plaza. Actually, it's not far from El Moro, if you know where that is.

Take a cab; they all know it.
