Was wondering if anyone has tied a bunch of weights to their Venture Wing to see exactly what the lift is. The 30+ statement on DR's website is one of those "things make you go hmm." Just how much is "+" anyway?

Something I haven't tried, but have heard about, is weighing the empty wing dry, and filling the wing with water and weighing it again, and the difference in weights (ie the weight of the water inside) is the amount of lift. You should be able to do it with fresh water, calculate the fresh water lift, then convert it to salt water lift, because salt water weighs more than fresh water. Someone will have the conversion factor.

Does this sound valid?

I'd be surprised if it's even 30 lbs. I bought one to use on my pool rig, and just sold it to someone much smaller than me because it was barely adequate in the pool ... and I want something I can use for the occasional tropical vacation as well.

A pity, really ... it's a really neat little wing. I'm replacing mine with an Oxycheq 40#.

Am using the Venture wing with a SS Bp in a 5mm suit and its great, plenty of lift in fact a bunch of divers over here us it with that same set-up and find it quite adequate.

BC's and wings are mostly handassembled and their buoyancy typically varies up to plus or minus 10% (Rodales used to measure this in their tests). 30+ should mean that it is at least 30 lbs.

That sounds quite impossible. Assuming you are not diving doubles you would have to have a wetsuit buoyancy loss of over 20lbs in a pool... that would have to be a 35mm combo wetsuit!
I used to dive a 30 lb. TravelWing with a 7mm combo suit and it provided plenty of lift.

I dove mine today at Paradise Springs with a full 7mm, SS plate, single 104 and a canister light and had more than adequate lift at the surface.

If you're properly weighted you will always have enough lift at the surface: it's at depth that matters.
