Well today I went and found one of those big ones that several people here on the board have posted. The water today was 64 with 7 to 10 viz. I will post the cleaned up version later this weekend. The tooth measured at 5 inches from point to where it appears the enamel should be.

This was a beach dive just south of Venice Beach. The same place where Scuba Board host some of it's dives. If you travel by boat , you will dive the bone yard. I gear up at the street and walk out into the water. You park on Alhambra Road and often meet other divers. I went out at the culvert pipes on a heading of 240 and went out approx 200 yards. For complete location details and other spots in that area, search for Reefguy, look for his Shark Tooth Guide. Gives great directions and location details.

Today the water temp was 64 and I wore a 1ml skin and a 3 ml full, with 3 ml hood. It got cold 30 to 45 min into the dive.

I was wondering if you were at Alhambra. That is the second big tooth to come from there recently. A 3 MM suit in 64 degree water? I'm surprised it took 30 minutes to get cold. Are you sure you weren't just numb long before that?

That's pretty cool. My dad's folks had a winter home in Venice, back in the 70s. I used to fly down there all the time to stay with them (that was back when you could put a 10 year old kid on a plane by himself.) My grandfather would take me to Venice beach where I would walk up and down collecting sharks teeth from the sand. In a single visit, I would fill a maxwellhouse coffee can half full (I think they were 1 pound cans.) Those were some great memories. I'll have to get over there and dive it sometime.

Thanks for sharing your find with us!

Dave

Nice tooth. I found about 24 teeth in the .5-1 range and one Meg that was 1.5 and had total enamel erosion. Still searching for the big one.

Nice find. I am going to have to stop by there sometime on my way to the Keys and see if I can hook up with some of you experts in the area.

Any one that is going to be in the area, can post request for dive buddies and several of us that live in the area will be happy to get you in the water and headed into the area where we find these teeth. I can not wait till I find another one.

Measure it from the corner of the root to the tip, that tooth is proably over 5½ inches. Great find!

Thanks Walter. I even made sure that Reefguy got a up close look at this one. Seems he is mad because I found one that is better than his. Oh well, he'll get over it.
