Uwatec Aladin 2G - New for 2010?

Hi everyone,
I recently completed my Advanced Open Water, and now am in search for some gear.

Was reading through some of the posts the other day, and came across this dive computer:
Uwatec Aladin 2G not Uwatec Aladin Tec 2G !

I know there are good reviews for the Aladin Tec 2G, but have nothing about Aladin 2G

I did a search through the forum and on Google, but came up with almost nothing about this computer other than its official web site:

Is this computer new for 2010? And if so, who sells it and where?

And if someone has it or has had any experience with it, I'll be more than happy to hear any feedback.

I think it's the same computer. Looks exactly to same as mine but they dropped the tec in the name and on the face. My guess is that it's got to do with marketing the product.

Yes, a marketing strategy could be very well be what's happening with this "new" model!
From all the reviews that I have read on the Tec2G though, it seems like a good, solid computer, that can be used as a recreational dive computer to begin with, and later on used for Technical diving as well.
I would love to venture into Tech diving later on, so this could be a good computer to invest in.

Are you happy with your Tec2G? How long have you had it for? And would you recommend it?

The new Aladin 2G is exactly the as the Tec 2G, but is has two extra features: PDIS (for deepstops) and a freedive modus.
The Tec 2G does not exist anymore and the price of the 2G is the same.

It's a very good computer, for sport and technical diving.

In The Netherlands a diving association tested the Uwatec tec and other computers. You can download the free of charge short report on their website. Google for: 'A comparative investigation of their performance and safety' 'Stichting Duik Research'

Another new feature is that one water-contact was moved to the back. The computer needs to be fully submerged to go into dive mode.
It is now very unlikely that a wet computer will stay in dive-mode which consumes more battery.

I just read the report you mentioned; here's what they say about the aladin:
Aladin Pro (Scubapro)
This DCs was developed some 20 years ago. Despite this, NDLs were reasonable. NFTs (no flying time) were much too short. Reproducibility was bad. DISAPPROVED.

Is it a bad computer then? Besides, does it give safety stops? I didn't see the feature in the specs on the manufacturer's website. Thanks,

Aladin Pro is not same as Aladin Tec/2G.

Safety stop is user defined and initiated (unlike deco stops, which are also kinda user defined )

A huge plus alongside it being a good computer is that you can replace the battery on your own, even if you disregard the o-ring which should be replaced at the same time. Should the battery compartment flood, there's no big damage, just put a new battery in it (and replace the o-ring apparently).

I have one, 150 dives on it so far, used for various types of dives and in various modes (gauge, auto pilot, backup to deco dive plan)...I would get another if I was looking for a computer nowadays, I believe the price is decent.

If you go to the ScubaPro / Uwatec manuals site at Instruction manuals (computers) - SCUBAPRO-UWATEC, you will see the new Aladin 2G (2010) listed as a separate computer.
