Can you help me? I can't make up my mind - Uwatec Air Z Nitrox -- Oceanic VT Pro - back and forth, back and forth, my head's swimming.

Please tell me why you purchased your Uwatec Air Z Nitrox and what you like about it the most.

I like the way the Air Z fits my arm. I don't like its the wet contacts very well. The VT Pro may be easier to read. I can change the battery on the VT which seems like a positive.

I'm a pretty new diver and never have used a computer. I think both are fine pieces of equipment but hope someone will make a comment that sways me in one direction or another.

Thanks in advance,

dj

I bought a used Air X Nitrox because it was a good deal at the time. When the battery went I found out that it was not possible to replace the battery, but Uwatec offered an upgrade to the Air Z Nitrox for £90 - that's about 20% of the cost of a new one.

The Air Z is ok.
As you say it fits well on your arm, and the strap is easy to use.
Clear display but it only gives the most basic info - no water temp, for instance.
Wet contacts are a pain to use.
I believe that the algorithm it uses is dated.
It's bloody expensive

10 years diving Uwatec computers.

First the Uwatec Air X Nitrox, now the Air Z O2. Also own 2 Nitrox Pros.

They have been benchmark computers. Super reliable.

Probably will add a Smart Tec next.

I'm not a dealer, but I was once.

I used to have the VT PRO and loved it (until the Atom came out) and would recommend it. I like the user replaceable battery option, the wireless link option and the less conservative nature compared to other PDCs. Fit is nice, but a slimmer unit would be that much nicer. Huge display with easy to read info right there where you need it. Easy to use above and below water. Decent log feature with optional download capability.

The Atom is my 3rd Oceanic PDC, had the PRO Plus 2 and the VT Pro before, and I am sold.

Love my Air Z, shows me what I need to know, no pushing buttons or anything, everything I need is right there.

Like it alot.

I think it's easy to use and shows the info I need. Very pleased with the purchase.

With the PC interface I get to see the temperature which I would have liked to see whilst diving and other info like air-consumption which helps me make my gas planning for next dives. With the interface the Max PPO2, sensitivity for over-breathing and planned reserve pressure can be adjusted. I would have liked it when the reserve could be set without the interface as I generaly don't bring my PC with me to the dive site.

Got no experience with the Oceanic VT Pro

I have almost 50 dives on one and like it quite a bit. Nice and easy to read, reliable. The contacts are a pain, but not too bad. I wear a backup watch/depth gauge that gives me temp during the dive, so I don't mind not having it on the computer so much. I have only had the transmitter go out once on it, and that was when a strobe fired inbetween the transmitter and the unit.

Dove the air z for a few years, loved it so much I coughed up the $1300 for the smart tec. Not seeing the temp never bothered me, it does you no good underwater and is just another number on the screen. You don't have to change screens to see any info. Wet contacts never gave me a prob either, just lick you fingers. As far as the battery, I will take having to send it in ever 8-10 years (based on 100 dives per year), I actually used mine for 5 years (dives 10-188) and never had to change the battery. I won't buy Oceanic b/c I has a dive buddy lose transmission with the Atom and the computer completely locked out (no depth, no time, nothing).
