There are quite a few books around that will help you get started. Another (free!) place to look is right here on ScubaBoard. Check out the getting started areas - there is a guide in the Canon section, too. Remember nothing there really is Canon specific so it should help with initial settings etc.

I don't think any UW photographer should be without Jim Church's Essential Guide to Composition It's fabulous for those who have no clue and for those who have been doing it for a while! It's a resource you'll return to time and again.

I've had a look at some of the newer books for Digital and frankly a lot of them don't seem to have that much to offer. There is one that just came out that is getting some nice comments from people I believe actually know what they are talking about...but of course I can't remember the name of it! When I find it, I'll post!
