UW camera rental in Brazil?

Hi all,

I have a friend at work who is travelling over the Thanksgiving holiday to visit family in Brazil. She inquired with me about renting a housing for her D90 to go snorkeling there, but I explained that it would be difficult, expensive and impractical for someone with no UW camera experience. She can rent an A570 with housing from Backscatter for a few hundred dollars a week, but I thought she might be able to find something locally in Brazil that she can use only for a day or two for less money. Anyone out there know of an UW vendor or dive shop in Brazil that might have what she needs? Thanks.

Larry it really depends on where she is going to be, it's a huge country. I am sure she can find anything she needs in the big coastal cities in the south (like Rio or Santos), and in some of the major cities in the northeast (Recife, Fortaleza, Belem). Might be a problem in some of the smaller coastal cities however.

Hi Ken. I found a dive operator in the Rio area for her that rents cameras (Divepoint) but they only rent cameras to their dive customers. She can also rent a P&S from Backscatter here and take it along. I also advised her that for a similar cost to renting, she could pick up a Tough 8000 or a Canon D10 that she can put in her shirt pocket for any trekking and take snorkeling down to 30 feet. She seems to be leaning that way, or resigned to taking pictures next time. Thanks.
