Hi, all. My 16 yr old daughter wants to learn to dive and since we're heading to Nicaragua for the summer, I figured a week in the Bay Islands (pre-Nica) is the answer.
I plan to go during Carnival (in July) to make sure things are a bit more lively for her. I used to dive (many eons ago, I worked for Mel Fisher) and safety is not something I take lightly, nor would I want her to.
So, I am looking for some suggestions for good dive shops with in-depth instruction and a very professional atmosphere. I know Katy (on these boards) said there were some she would NOT recommend and I would like to hear from her, if possible.
I would like a shop that has reliable, new equipment (d is bringing her own mask, fins, and rash guard). I've trained her to hold her breath for 2 minutes underwater--told her that when she can do that, I will pay for her c-card, etc. She's passed the 2 minute mark and now she's holding me to my word.
Also, I'd like a few suggestions on quiet, simple, and cheap lodgings--hopefully cheap enough that she and I can each have our own rooms. Mosquito nets would be a big plus. We've done the Amazon so she's pretty ok with rustic....she's not a blow dryer type of gal. I will NOT be diving, but I will be snorkelling (I've had some extensive dental work done and my sinuses are blown) .
Thanks!
