Hello Everyone, My wife and I are newly certified AWO divers and have dove in Key Largo for the last 2 years and are looking to expand our horizons. We are thinking about a trip next spring to the USVI and would appreciate any input from divers who have experienced any or all of the islands. Any advice or recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, John and Nikki

I went to St. Croix in April and loved it. St. Croix is much more mellow than St. Thomas, which supposedly has an abbundance of cruise ships docking as well as a younger party crowd. St. John is supposed to beautiful and exclusive - and pricey.

I dove with Dive Experience in Christiansted.

Great shop, very experienced owner and crew. The laid back pace of their boat dives is nice, and you get to spend a lot of time in the water. This was my first time diving open water, so I was, of course, in awe of everything I saw, but I saw a ton of (to me) exotic underwater life and just loved the diving.

St. Croix itself is quite laid back as well and has some good restaurants and a few decent bars. Other than that I don't know about the night life..

A quick search in the travel section will no doubt get you more info.

My first dive (discover) was in St Thomas and I did it with Chris sawyer dive shop. At the time, I thought it was like any other dive company, but knowing what I do now, they were AWESOME. Safety first, fun in a close second.

I just did a few weeks diving on a liveaboard in the BVI's and it was awesome.

Id suggest diving the rhone. I'm positive you can get to it from a dive shop from St Thomas. I'd also suggest diving the chikuzen, this though, I'm not sure you can get there from the USVI. I would at least ask. Its one of my favorite dives I've ever done. Goliath grouper in there, always schools of fish, saw sting rays on both dives down there, some cobia and some more schools of fish.

Other than those three suggestions, have fun... it wont be hard.

If you do dive the Rhone, remember it is in British territory and you must have a passport....not just a birth cert.
