I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but I've been following it closely and was curious what people thought about it and if anyone has dove it yet.

Also try a search on "Oriskany."

My wife and I dove it. It's okay. Personally, I'd rather see reefs and more marine life. My wife's Dad, a Marine Corp pilot, flew missions off her. I suppose that was the biggest draw for us.

If you are trained for wreck penetration there would be a lot to explore around the super structure. If you're also a trimix diver exploring the hanger deck could be interesting - so I was told.

Yep... going to do this as part of a technical charter early August. Can't wait!

Life will settle on the wreck. The Speigel Grove took about 2 years to start to get some really good growth on it. Amazing to see the changes year over year. So if you dive it now... you have a reference point to see the changes. Very cool!

Only issue with the Oriskany vs. Speigel Grove is how far off the coast. This means more time to get there and back plus added cost.

Still... how many aircraft carriers in the US are there to dive on within Recreation limits? :D
