I need some advice when using the Manual White Balance setting on the A520. The Picture Either is white or black. in other words realy light or realy dark. I can never get it to be just how I want It to be. Any Advice.

When It's on Auto and I push the button down half way it shows me what the Apeture and shutter speed are. I'll take the picture (in a dark room). then I put the same Apeture and Shutter speed on Manual and it will be dark. I will have the flash on both times and the first one will be like it was in broad daylight and the second one looks like there was no flash exept on some bright objects in the front. I don't know how to get it to be the same in manual and auto. HELP!

OK, I'm still confused.

which button are you pushing down? The shutter? I thought you were talking about MWB?

Are you sure that you are holding the camera exactly the same way? If you take a reading and then shift the camera at all, the reading may change drastically. Also, in auto, is the camera using the same ISO you are using in manual? The camera may be setting say 400 when you are using 100 - that will make your manual shots too dark.

Also, what are you trying to achieve? There may be an easier way to get to where you're going if I knew what you were trying to do.

Are you experienced w/ manual mode or just learning? Also are you talking about White Balance- which would be under "functions"- or are you trying to get into Manual Shooting Mode?

If you want to go to Manual Shooting mode, I suggest going outside and trying it out around the yard during the day. You can either shoot in "AUTO" or "P" and look at the shutter speed/aperature settings and mimic them in MANUAL or "M"; or you can just pick numbers out of your head: Start with APerature of 4-5, and a shutter of 250-500. After you take a picture- a flower or plant is a good subject- press the "display" button to bring up the histogram, it's a graph that represents the "exposure" of the photo.

That should get you started... if you want Manual White Balance that is a different function all together.
