I considered buying a compressor towards the end of last year. We dive a lot on my boat and the ability to top off our doubles between dives, instead of bringing 4-5 extra sets of doubles........offers a lot of convenience.
Also - we will blending Nitrox below 40% (bought Oxyhacker last year and will make our own stick).
That being said - after looking at everything available - and knowing that we want a a continuous duty compressor - Sheldons seem to be the best option.
We plan on buying one soon and came across a local guy who has a Sheldon compressor with only 12 hours and a few options on it - supposedly it is a Honda engine instead of a "knock off" (as the seller called it) and has several options including "hour meter, it has a moisture gauge, and an auto shutoff valve" that he says he paid extra for - as well as a bunch of extra hoses, etc.
Barely used (supposedly) and just doesnt need it.
That being said - The price isnt that much less than new (few hundred) - but I would save on shipping ( ballpark).
Any risk in buying it used ............or would you guys recommend just spend the extra grand, get it new, and forget the extras.
If I bought it used - I would imagine that I would have to flush the oil and run synthetic for blending nitrox.
BTW - I know overall most people say its cheaper in the long run to get fills at the LDS- but unfortunately we dont get back in time on Saturdays to get there to get fills for Sundays dive - and they are 35 miles from the boat. So between fills at night for the next day, and topping off between dives - its the convenience we are looking for - not the cost of avoiding fills. (although the closest LDS does charge an arm and a leg for Nitrox)
