I'm looking at getting a used R380 second stage. The reg is claimed to be fresh of an annual maintenace and O2 cleaned.

I am going to take this stage into the LDS to have them look at it but had a quick question. I would think that if I put my thumb over the end of the hose that connects to the 1st stage and inhaled on the 2nd stage that I should get a vacuum. Currently when I cover the hose and inhale (normal strength) some air gets pulled into the 2nd stage. It sounds like the air is getting pulled though the front of the 2nd stage and if I press the purge valve (while inhaling) it becomes harder to draw air.

Does this mean anything? I know that if I connect my
MK25/S600 to a tank (with the valve closed) and inhale I get a vacuum.

And with the LP hose blocked, the vacuum should not be effected by pressing the purge button. My first guess would be a defect (hole) in the diaphram that is partially blocked by pressing the purge button. Sounds like a real half-azzed service job. I would suggest you reduce the price by the cost of a good annual service. Who knows what else was not done properly!

the diaphram may be torn or not seated correctly in the reg.

Misrepresentation of condition is every reason to walk away.
