A 64-year-old Californian man has died while scuba diving at a reef off far north Queensland.

The Californian man experienced difficulties before coming to the surface at Saxon Reef, in the Great Barrier Reef off Cairns, about 5pm (AEST) yesterday, police said.
The man was pulled from the water and had no pulse and wasn't breathing, a police spokeswoman said.

CPR was performed on the man for about an hour without success.

His body was taken to Cairns by helicopter.

My deep condolences to the diver family.
Do you know how the incident happened, anyone know about the news.

Oh.... I'm working on one of the few boats visiting Saxon Reef. Got a few days off at the moment and hope that it didn't happen on my boat. As far as i know are only 2 or 3 boats visiting Saxon at the moment. I might be able to tell you guys more in a few days
