Hi Folks

Thinking last minute change to end of holiday, with group flying into bangkok tomorrow til the 21st - I am keen to dodge bangkok and sneak in a couple of days diving instead. have been told Koh Chang is probably best bet - anyone have some recent experience there and advice for best value diving for advanced diver?

Koh Chang can be extremely rainy this time of year, so firstly good luck with the weather.
I have personally found Scuba evolution to be the best shop on the island, looking at the website it would appear the shop name has changed? So I am unsure if there are any other changes such as new owners etc. The diving is probably some of the best in the Gulf of Thailand, also the island its self is a nice place, however this time of year you are unlikely to experience the best conditions Koh Chang has to offer. Also dont expect Similan Islands standards.
See the link below and their website gives details of all the popular dive sites.
There are loads of dive shops on the island but many seem to close through the summer months due to the weather and consequent lack of tourists. In the past Scuba Evolution were one that remained open all year round.
Maybe a good idea to give them a call first because this time of year the choice of dive sites can be limited due to weather conditions.

Good luck

It is still rain in Koh Chang. The weather forecast informed storm will be gone about 25 June 2011.

yeah no diving on Koh Chang unfortunately due to weather , had a nice time anyway.

Yes always best to avoid May - September for diving Koh Chang. That of course does not mean at sometime during this time the conditions are ok for diving. But more often than not they are as you have found them.
Better luck next time. If you do find yourself on the island again, some of the diving can be good at the right time of year.
