There's a chance I may be relocating to Southern California (near Oxnard) in the imminent future! Somebody please tell me there is warm or at least not COLD diving somewhere in the area!

Do people go to the Sea of Cortez for warmer water?

I'm looking for 75 or 80 degree water :)

Your answer just may change my life :D

It's all warm-water diving down here ... compared to NorCal.

got 7mm?

Sorry, but in the northern hemisphere major ocean currents run generally clockwise. That means that this part of the Pacific Ocean is cold. The Sea of Cortez is essentially a relatively deep lake and not part of the major current systems so the water there is also comparatively cold, think Lake Michigan, but perhaps not as cold.

For warmer water hop on a plane and make the jump to the Carribean or Hawaii. Most divers here wear either thick wet suits or dry suits to counter the cold. There is abundant aquatic life here so there is some very good diving.

If you are not accustomed to diving in relatively cold water take it easy for your first several dives to acclimate yourself to the temperature.

You'll have to go South (way South) to even get close to what you want. Cabo temps are around 76-78F in the summer, but winter it's colder (60's). Right now, in So Cal water temps are 51F. Great vis though:) Water warms up to around 67F in the late summer:-)

Start looking at 7mm and dry suits :-)

60 degrees is warm. I'm skinny dipping 60 degrees...j/k. Good luck on finding the jacuzzi waters.

Cold you walk on. The Pacific you swim in so see, it's not cold. :D

75-80? Get a pool. :D

Out of a Bizillion Southern California divers about half still dive there as WWW's. The rest don't think it's cold.

I live in LA and I had great warm water diving (80F) last April. OF course, I had to go to Cozumel to do it.

Water temps here are currently in the 50F range (my dive last Friday). The highest I've seen it, during an El Nino event in 1997, was 70F at the surface - but that's very rare.

All right, that does it! Who cares if the water is cold? Getting 8 replies at midday from SoCal within 60 seconds tells me something about the laid back work ethic out there! ;)

That's the spirit. Besides, you're in Chicago and our water is always cold in the midwest. Diving is fun no matter what the temps are. You'll just adapt is all.
