I came across a lot of these urchins today...

... but there was this one variation.

Can anyone ID & is this normal for these?
 
These are called magnificent urchins. Some people also refer to them as queen urchins but not as commonly. I have seen the black variant a few times but i'm not 100% sure why the variation in colour hopefully someone can point you in the right direction.
