Hi All

Ive been using by single YS-01 for a while attached to my ikelite housing (canon s100 version) with a basic fantasea fibre cable attached to the velco pad in front of the internal flash (using TTL with the canon software hack). This has worked fine. I have a new YS-01 strobe on order and thinking how i will connect them up together.

I could try and find a dual pad version - but think that having 2 fibres connected to it - it could easily come away from the velcro (as the fibres come out of the same side). Is there slightly better fitting ones or do these dual ones hold quite well?

Also, i assume i can slave the new one to the old one (again using a fibre cable) - but i think the downside would be having the cable in the way with how they join.

Lastly - is there any preference in quality/speed for slaving one to the other or having both going direct to the internal flash?

Thanks

As for fitting two fibers, Inon has created this handy little adapter: Inon - Rubber Bush Type L
That should solve the problem.

Connecting one strobe to the other as slave is also a good solution. I have used it many times, especially with Ikelite TTL housings that have just one connector, when using a single YS-D1 with a slave YS-01 or YS-03.
The cable in the middle actually bothers you a lot less than you might think. You barely remember it's there. Just need to make sure it doesn't get tangled when folding / opening the arms and the end / beginning of the dive.

There is no difference in operation whatsoever between direct connection and slave connection. If anything, slave connection makes sure that both sides are lit equally when using TTL mode.

Thanks Ran - that was handy to know. Dont think that adapter would fit mine as i dont have one of those posh flash blocker/diffuser things. I only have the nano fibre optic kit but i think its the old style where the optic comes straight out of the grommit (strobe end) - which causes the cable to occasionally get bent, so will either get a 90 degree bend version (if they exist) or change to the pre moulded 90 degree one (at strobe end), and then probably go for the strobe to strobe cable :)

if you are a little handy, it is easy to add additional fibre sockets to clear housings. all you need is the proper sized pen, a cutting tool and some crazy glue.

you can make a socket by slicing / sawing a small cross section from an appropriately sized pen. a random survey of pens you have lying about the house should find one just about the right size.

you can also make your own fibre optic cables from common TOS cables for was less than scuba cables.

Thanks Giffenk, i bought a proper fibre cable as i decided to join by strobe to strobe so needed the curly expandable version.

For the basic single core fibre i have connecting the internal flash to the master strobe i thought i would try adding these to the FO ends Howshot Fiber Adapter L for Sea&Sea YS strobes - (only a couple of quid from US)

Thanks a lot just ordered some for my SnS flashes.

I was a bit dubious about ordering from the divervision website, but have ordered 2 things now and both delivered fine with tracking and very quick delivery to UK even from Taiwan (thought it was from US).

What is and can you explain the canon hack. I have the canon rebel sr1.
thnx
