Just wanted to update everyone. I recieved my Advanced Open Water certification this weekend with PADI. I had a lot of fun. My max depth for the weekend was 93ft. I also had the chance to try out my Mares Abyss and my Oceanic Computer. Both worked flawlessly and I am really happy with my purchases. The computer is so much fun. I learned the wheel this weekend too and how to figure multilevel dives, I believe I like the wheel better than the regular RDP now, I am hooked :) I dove at Lake Travis in Austin. Weather permitting I will be in Huntsville at the Blue Lagoon this weekend diving my little butt off for practice. I am getting good at bouyancy control and navigation is going awesome. Hopefully I"ll take my rescue diver course in the next 3 weeks or so, we'll see. Anyway, that's where I stand now folks. Thanks for listening to my ramblings :)

Hey, congratulations! Sounds like you've had a good experience doing AOW, and that you actually learned a lot in the process.

Good luck with the rescue. Depending on how much energy you can put into it, 3 weeks might be a little bit short for scheduling -- but that too is a fun (but exhausting) course.

Keep us updated.

My energy level for this sport is pretty high right now, and my instructor is willing to accomodate any schedule (he's a great guy) so we will see. I've been trained in water rescue somewhat (lifeguard) and have been trained extensively in the past as an EMT and recently in the Military with my military police training so I don't think the curriculum will be too overbearing for me. Thanks for the support!!! Happy Diving.

Well, Mike, by all means go for it ;) Sounds like you've got all the components: energy, a good instructor, good credentials etc.

One word of advice, though: diving is supposed to be fun. Take time to do some dives just to chat with the fishes or play chess with the bugs down there too.

Ohh, and do still keep us updated, mhkay? ;)

Will do. Don't worry, I'll take the time to enjoy the scenery too. There was a couple of catfish that just followed me this weekend, it was pretty funny actually. I can't wait to get in the gulf and see how that is.
