Unicorns of the Sea

Text and Photography by Doug Ebersole

At some point, every scuba diver dreams of diving with a whale shark (Rhiniodon Typus). Like many divers, I traveled the globe for years searching for them but to no avail. I always seemed to hear the same old thing – “you should have been here last week”. In my mind, whale sharks were the “unicorns of the sea”.

Nice article, but I believe a NARWHAL would be closer to sea unicorn.

Seriously, a great article with some fantastic pics. Did you get any over/under shots? Looks like situations might have been ideal for that.

Most days were a little too choppy, but someone got one over at www.wetpixel.com. Search for the wetpixel whale shark isla trip. They were there right after us with the same operator.

Curt -- I'll have to do some research on that one!
