Hello, my name is Brad and this is my first time posting here. I live in So Cal and live for u/w photography. I used to catch fish from my skiff, but conviction and conscience got the best of me. Now i take pictures and my time on the water has never been more rewarding. I don't know anyone else who is into u/w photography, so it would be my pleasure to make the acquaintance of other u/w photographers.

Last weekend i spent two nights at San Nicolas Island and had a wonderful time swimming under the kelp canopy. Rockfish are among my favorite subjects, as they are becoming increasingly rare off our coast. At Nicolas, you can still see them in the shallow water among the plush and colorful surroundings. Here is a link to a picture of a Treefish that i saw last Sunday. This beautiful little fellow lives just outside of an Elephant Seal haulout, under a rocky overhang in about 35' of water.

I used my MX10 camera w/attached lense and Kodak 100 film.

First off let me give you my official "Welcome to ScubaBoard" intro.

Welcome to scubaboard the best place to spend your time above water anywhere on the planet! Here you can find answer to almost any question or questions to fit almost any answer!

Okay now with that out of the way, cool pics I am looking through your photo album as I type!

isn't it, Brad? And welcome to our Board, a great place to come for scuba fans...and for folks who love to use their cameras in that grand environment!

Very nice photos! We love to share photos and stories. So, again, welcome aboard and keep on coming back.

Brad, welcome from NJ.
I occasionally take pix underwater (but don't have a way to put them on the computer). Your collection has some great shots.
Keep posting , and I'm sure some of the many photo buffs will reply. If it concerns diving, or almost anything related to diving, you'll find that there is a wealth of knowledge to seek and to share.
Good Luck,
Miked

Hi Brad,

I am also in So Cal and into U/W Photography. But my pics are no where near as nice as your pics are. Very Nice. I am still a novice using a Reefmaster, hopefully next year I can upgrade my camera equipment.

Cool! I was particularly interested in your soupfin photo. I recently saw the tail end of one swimming away, but I never saw the rest of it. Now I know. Thanks!

To the best board, SCUBA or otherwise on the net! I loved your pictures, and even recognised that manatee (just kidding). Hope you get lots of great input, meet lots of friends and learn as much as I have here.

My wife suggested i mention that i don't scuba dive, i freedive. I figure that's OK since we are primarially discussing u/w photography here. Also, on the page i linked, my photos are 1-8 and 15-21. There are other pictures on my web page.

I don't know much about the technical aspects of photography. For instance, i couldn't tell you what an F-stop is, but i do know how to get to all of those incredible places and find something interesting to photograph.

If the weather holds, i will be taking the good skiff back out to the Island of the Blue Dolphins (San Nicolas) tomorrow morning. I hope to swim in the kelp and photograph some more rockfish. I also hope to get some more footage of the elephant seals on the beach. Nicolas is about 70nm from port, so it is far enough away that it still retains some vestages of a pristine California environment (though that is changing). If i happen to get any good pictures i will post them when i get back (Sunday).

Thank you~ syruss32, joewr, miked, socaldiver, kelpmermaid, and NetDoc!

Brad

PS: Kelp mermaid, soupfin are very shy. I have been fortunate enough to encounter them in hunting packs on two occasions, once last year at the Cortes Bank and then again this year at San Clemente island. They are a rare treat to see in numbers. Beautiful creatures!

Brad...Welcome to our pond. I'm an u/w photographer too. I liked your photos...whether you got them on scuba or not!

Hopefully, we'll soon be able to post/upload our own u/w photos here on Scuba Board.

Ah ha! Maybe that's the key to some of your shots...I wondered how you got up so close to the soupfin.
