hello

I am just getting into underwater photography and i am looking for a good book that is easy reading for the beginner. I have experience in photography from years ago but the digital is new to me. I am just looking for something to get me some basic skills.
I have a auto/manual camera so i am trying to cover some manual functions as well.
also where to buy the recomended book as well .
thanks

Jack and Sue Drafahl "Master Guide for the Digital Photographer" is simple, thorough and straightforward. Discusses cameras, strobes, manual settings, add on lenses, shooting techniques; pretty much all the basics. It's kind of pricey at $34.95 for a 100 page paperback, but it will give you what you need. I bought it at Amazon for a bit less, I think.

There is a list and some links to more reference materials in the Sticky - follow the pink link in my signature

For post-processing the DVD Underwater Photoworkshop is a must have. I use some of the things I learned there in my land photos. Best $80ish or whatever dollars I've spent in a long time, for sure.

For books, a must have is Jim Church's Essential Guide to Composition.

I agree with Larry.

Also another thought, Though it is very basic but very good info for a beginner, The PADI Digital Underwater Photographer crew pack book is a great place to start and if you decide to get your underwater photographer cert you have all of the required material.

Just another thought for you to consider as I teach the U/W Photo course..

Another great book - The Underwater Photographer by Martin Edge

Agreed with Andy, this is a great book.

I also just finished my PADI U/W Photog. class and it was a lot of fun.

Yep, if you only buy one book on underwater photography, get this one.

I got Jim's book, on Alcina's suggestion, and " Successful Underwater Photography" by Brian Skerry on Amazon as a package deal a couple years ago and refer to them both often.
