With my new rig setting me back a few coins I wanted to make some of my old gear work. Here is what I came up with for a back up light till it can be replaced. Then it should find it's way into my pocket. Due to OEM the mounting location it was a bit of a pain but it's a great little light that was well worth saving.

One cave line run from the OEM mounting point to the clip in the rear. Then one cave line run on the other side from a hose clamp to the clip. Once everything was tight I used a bike tube to keep the line in place and clean everything up. :D

nice work - I too have been trying to figure out what to do with my UK lights, I originally go the fathom 4 pack, but since I've switched to a HOG rig they've become less than ideal

I'll probably still sell mine, but now I've got one more option to consider - thanks!

EDIT: this is a bit of a hijack, but are you doing the New Years Eve Day Dive at Dutch Springs? I noticed your location in your profile and I'm looking for a buddy for that day. (I go to college in FL, back here in Allentown till mid-January)

I'm thinking about it. The only issue for me is I dive wet.

If you're mentoring a buddy who doesn't have a canister light, you may want to consider a kit that converts the UK-4 into a poor diver's canister:

What Works, Works! Inc. - Home - Manufacturer of scuba diving lights, DLX canister lights, safety reels, dive reels, backup light kits

Obviously not intended for penetrating the Brittanic or going 18,000 feet into a cave, but it might be useful for training or casual recreational use. It's much more comfortable than a lanyard for night dives!

I use a halogen MiniQ40 as my 2nd backup (left side of harness). I like it because it's flat profile keeps it snug against the webbing and out of the way. I was inspired by a solution dreamed up by a training partner and came up with a quick and easy way to add a mounting point to the tail of these lights.

You can find Epoxy Putty in any Home Depot in the plumbing department. Basically, it's a two-part putty that, when kneaded, cures rock hard. I've also seen the stuff marketed on TV by that OxyClean whacko as 'Mighty Putty'. Anyway, I took a bit of 100-grit sandpaper to the tail of the light to rough up the surface and then molded a bit of putty on the light in the shape of an attachment point minus the hole for the cave line. You can wet your fingers to smooth the putty for better appearance. After a couple hours, the stuff is cured to the point that it can be tooled. I drilled (Dremeled?) a hole in the new putty attachment point and smoothed it out a bit with a grinding bit. Add a snap with cave line and you're done. The putty is about $4 for a tube large enough to do 20 lights and the time investment is 30-40 min. I've tried to pull the snap free from the light - it's not going anywhere. I hope this is useful for anyone else who likes the MiniQ40 format. The putty has LOADS of other uses as well.

Edit: added two pics. FWIW, most places sell black epoxy putty, so you are likely to get a prettier result.

hmm, nice work, I just might have a use for my Mini Q40 eLed Plus yet.....

maybe I can turn the C8 into a poor man's canister - it would take some work, but 13.2 watts and a 3-4 hour burn time may make it worth the effort

I won't be able to work on it until after the 16th (light's down in FL, I'm up in PA) - but I'll definitely post pictures once I do.
