After reading alot I am curious what divers have done experimenting or just for the hell of it kinda stunts.

For example a post I read stated that some divers found some beer bottles at some depth, filled them with air and pointed them at the surface. only to watch them go flying up.

I was curious if someone had taken a soda can down to a good depth, gave it a good shake and let it go (would it go up and explode?) or maybe a 2l Bottle of something.
***OF course making sure you dont litter by picking up the trash***

A non-carbonated soda wouldn't explode because liquid does not compress. Something filled with gas at depth and released toward the surface might explode, depending on if the gas could escape or not.

All the crush and expand only applies to gasses. I think what throws people off it the talk about wetsuit compression and the like. What happens here, is the little gass pockets in the wetsuit compress, not the solid material itself. There is gass in your body, which can compress somewhat, your BC can compress in those areas where there is gas.

Liquid does not compress.

Now, you may be talking about the CO2 being released enough in the soda to explode, by releasing gas into the can. I don't think this would work, because shaking the can doesn't actually release the CO2 violently. It's the release of pressure when opening the can tha causes the soda to spill out.

I've filled up beer cans, bottles and milk jugs with air. Neat to see them rush to the surface...... haven't done it in a while as it got old as quick it as it 'was neat'.

Personally I think it's be interesting to see what would happen if you open a scuba tank (no regulator, etc) underwater. I imagine it would spin in circles somewhat. I also figure this would be very dangerous also and could easily hit and injure another diver.

I guess filling up balloons at depth and releasing them would be interesting also.

I saw a DM once bring a fully inflated balloon from the surface down to 60'. It was interesting to see what a couple of atmospheres does to it. Along the same principle is to bring an egg down to depth and crack it open...

Be sure to recover them if you must -- balloons are among the deadliest of trash for turtles et al.

I confused the bejeezus out of my wife last weekend while at the 20fsw stop by blowing bubble rings.

I did the beer bottle thing a couple of weekends ago - buddy and I were bored and were just horsing around. Stubby beer bottles worked well, but the wine botttle I found had glass too thick for the air it contained to lift it.

Ah well.

I also sent a capped pop bottle to the surface from 30'.. and was a little disappointed when it didn't explode (i filled it FULL of air at depth before capping it)

Hmm probably because that's less than 2ATA. The bottle needs to hold more than that on a hot day. Try something like 100 feet, or 130. Boom!

Take a tennis ball to 90 feet it looks a little crushed.
