We are shooting a model underwater in an Olympic pool this weekend and cannot figure out how to communicate with the diver/shooter underwater. I have looked for a one way system i.e. microphone to submerged speaker, but cannot find anything. Any suggestions, baring a full faced mask with mic?
I thought maybe I could hear a megaphone if it was close to the waters surface. Hmmm?

I have to say I am unaware of any UW comms other than the full face systems. Are you looking to communicate with the shooter while you are above water? or are you in water and needing to communicate with the model?

Also, I imagine the model will not be on scuba correct? If that is the case, he/she will be surfacing frequentlly. Why not have the shooter on regular comms, you can speak to him/her from above, and the just instruct the model on the surface?

We do a lot of shoots with OTS gear and it sure helps productivity, especially if the shooter can just stay on the bottom set up and communicate.

I've always used a buddy phone with an FFM. The job I had last weekend though simply didn't have the budget. We devised a series of additional hand gestures for basic communications. Ex rolling, set, good take, bad take, one more take needed (for safety), surface to discuss. Since its just a pool it worked out decently.
