The Resurrection of the U-534
The Resurrection of the U-534
On the morning of May 5, 1945, with World War II all but over, a RAF Liberator took off from Scotland. Its mission-to sink German U-boats escaping the chaos of crumbling Germany.

Two days earlier, a Type 9 Class U-boat, the U-534, had also left port. It was fully operational, equipped for war and fuelled with a range of over 11, 000 nautical miles. It s crew didn’t know what they were carrying, but rumors were rife. A hoard of gold; stolen and looted art treasures; perhaps even Hitler’s mistress herself- Eva Braun.

But in that twilight of half-peace, half-war, the U-534’s defenses were down. Off the coast of Norway, the U-534 became easy pickings for the crew of the G for George Liberator. The Liberator attacked, and the U-boat crew scrambled to safety just as the damaged but mostly intact hull of the U-534 slipped down into one of the deepest crevices of the freezing sea.

After 50 years underwater the U-534 is now revealing its secrets. Leading world salvage experts skillfully tracked the position of the U-boat keel and raised the wreck to the surface in an astounding, and brave, operation.

The Resurrection of the U-534 dramatically details the loss, the search for, the find and the salvage of the U-534, with archive footage of the kill and the whole story of the salvage.

Cheers
