Is there a difference between the two? I just purchased the TX40/DS4 + TX40 octo from DiveInn, and I'd like to use the yellow "octo" one as my primary. My 5' primary hose is bright yellow and i'd like to have the yellow reg at the end of that, and have the black one on the black hose for my backup. Yellow is about the only color you can see past 20 feet in the lakes over here, and I like having the donated reg stand out as much as possible. Besides, it would look silly to have a black reg on a yellow hose and a yellow reg on a black hose.

So, is the TX40 octo performance any different? Is it tuned down so as not to freeflow when in the water?

Thanks :)

They perform the same...the only difference is the color. It wouldn't be a bad idea to take them into a shop and have them checked out though just to make sure they are tuned right.

And the colored faceplate can be easily unscrewed and swapped between the two... to keep you color coordinated. ;)

The prices are pretty good - especially on their ScubaPro regs - but the only Apeks regs they have are DIN, and it appears that they pirated their pic of the TX 50 from the SimplyScuba website. Hmmmm

Jyst found this website and bought a new regulator from. Check out tgidiving.com for even better prices.

I am not that familiar with Apeks regs(internally), but the two second stages MAY be slightly different. Many manufacturers use a different spring in second stages designated for octopus use. I know for a fact that the older US Divers/Aqualung second stages have a heavier spring in the octopus second stage. The heavier spring is used to help reduce the possibility of free flow or air loss in this regulator exposed more often then your primary.
Just and FYI...
