Hi guys, I plan on diving with my dry suit at Two Mile Creek Park this Sat. a.m. early before it gets too hot. I am finally over my cold and am now ready to hit the water again. I am practicing dry suit buoyancy skills and getting ready for the trip to Pelham in about a week.

Anybody that wants to join me you are welcome, who knows we might spot THE GATOR!

Hey Stilwalker, if you can, motor on over!

I was thinking of diving cocktail cove this friday afternoon. If I don't dive there I may be down for this.

I'll be over to the left at the cove at one of the picnic tables. I put my flag in the water when I get there so I should be easy to spot. I plan on getting there at about 8:00 a.m. I'm going to try some thicker undergarments with my dry suit. I have to be in and out early because it is so hot, if I suited up during the middle of the day, I would have a heat stroke. I'm getting used to using the suit so I'll be ready for my PADI AOW dives at Pelham this Fall. When I get down at about 30 ft. at Lanier, I cool down, oh yes.

Be very careful at cocktail cove. It gets very busy Friday into Sunday. I was there one Saturday and by lunch there were like 300 boats and growing. They start coming in Friday after noon. The best time is during the week.

How deep have you been in Lanier? I was diving yesterday and when I hit the thermo cline @ 25' the viz was very bad and dark. It was very nice up to about 22' then it starts getting bad. I get freaked out and have trouble keeping it together in bad conditions. Does anybody else have problems with this?

Trying to have fun

I maxed at 32' the last time I was there. It gets pretty dark at that depth, at least where I was. I have to use a light just to read my computer, no fun. When it gets that bad I come up a little so I can see things better. It's normal not to like it when you get into deeper water that gets darker and colder. It all works against us as divers. That's the main reason we dive, to see things. At 20-25ft. at Two Mile Creek it's passable, not the Bahamas naturally, but somewhat OK.
If we get over to Pelham, near Birmingham in the next week or two, the vis should be alot better for us than Lanier.

So where are you going this weekend? If you go to cocktail cove how are you getting there? Do you have a boat? I get around the lake on a 17' runabout but I'm looking for a pontoon to turn into a dive boat that we can all use.

I don't know if I will make it over to 2 mile Saturday. I have to go yard saling with my wife to support our eBay store and to support my scuba wants and needs that I can’t seem to kick. Its all new to me so all I want to do is add to my gear and that takes cash. I sold 4 anchors this week that we dug off the bottom and that came to like $140.00. Coooool Man. We need to set a date to hit Pelham before time slips away on us and summer is gone.

A good day of diving is always better then a good day at work. Lets get wet :)

Either next weekend the 16th or the following the 23rd, both are Saturdays, work for me. BKP, if you want to join us.
Stiltwalker, BKP has been over there many times. He knows the place very well. I figure we could dive on the school bus that they have sitting on it's side at 65ft with a descent line going to it. That is about as deep as I want to go until I get my PADI AOW done.
As BKP said there isn't much else to see as you go any deeper. They have alot of cars and sailboats, etc. sunk in the shallower depths.

I see they have alot of fish to see, bass and bream. My buddy at Divers Supply, Brandon Kahn is going over to Pelham for his Deep Specialty Checkout Dives this Sat. He has never been before, I'm going to ask him how he liked diving in the "Pelham Keys" as they call it next week when he gets back.

rather than just going straight up and down the line on the bus why not take the line off the dock and follow it around past the sailboat, bus, container, concrete tubes, wall and back?

also, remember there are some nice dives on the other side off to the right of the dock, brim beds, fire trucks, a nice wall to about 100' etc

I am going to bring my pontoon boat back down here after labor day when Lanier settles back down,I have it set up pretty good for diving, ladder grill, stereo, depth finder, ect. I took it to Lake Hartwell for the summer because of the lack of boat ramps open on Lanier.
