Hey boys and girls, I had to firsts yesterday

Number A) I did my first boat dive (off a friends boat)

and B) Touched my first shark- nurse shark, but you gotta start somewhere right?

These were not in the same dives but thats okay :p

God I love florida :eyebrow:

I don't know where you were diving, of course, but on most of my boat dives in the Upper Keys the captain gives a speach which includes to NOT TOUCH anything that is now living or has ever been alive. This may only be a custom in that particular region or maybe only in the sanctuaries. Also, I saw a video on youtube in which a diver got about a hundred stiches in his face for fooling around with a nurse shark. It's been my theory not to touch'em if you aren't going to eat'em.

One of my buddies touches every nurse shark he sees. I've been tempted myself, but I have to say every time he does it, I think, " WOW, I am actually gonna get to see someone get bitten by a shark!!! Wish I had a camera!"

I have nothing against it, the sharks don't seem to be bothered by it... its not like he's poking them or hurting them. And I can't keep my hands to myself when a stingray swims by.

And the guy that got all the stitches in his face was kissing the shark... that takes things to a whole new level

yea, he was not only kissing it, but kissing it on the face, I touched it on the tail

I'm not too worried about the agression of nurse sharks

I love Florida too! I tried to touch one shark one time and it pissed off my dive instructor so i have yet to try... but i regardless, i love all that Fl loves has to offer

Isn't that exactly what I said?

You should be, they can bend like a pretzel and do have teeth.

Touch what you like, just be aware of the possible out comes.

:hijack: Can you imagine the pain of having to put a reg back in your mouth with your lips all bit up?? Ouch!

Congrats on your firsts Blackvans! I love boat so much more then shore, life is just easier that way. Ps: I've touched nurse sharks as well, whether you are gently feeling their tail 2 feet from their mouths, or swimming 2 feet away from them - if they really want to get you they will.

Not judging. I've done it myself.

...and if you grab a grumpy one, years from now you'll be able to impress people (nondivers of course) with your scars...

I don't offer advice. But in the ocean, pretty much everything can nip...almost lost a thumb to a pufferfish once...

Enjoy your journey of exploration!
