Going in late April / early May next year. Any suggestions one way or the other. A DM and AOW diver - prefer warmer water - week long - at least 10 dives - turks and Caicos or Dominica? Hotel suggestions?
thanks!

Just got back (2 days before Hurricane Issac!) from Turks & Caicos. Took my family (3 divers, 1 not yet) and stayed at the Beaches resort on Provo. Had an absolutely fantastic time!!! Diving was great did 10 dives during the week and had plenty of time to do other things with the family. While there, the water temp was low 80's even at 60-80' depths. Never been to Dominica.

Have been to Turks and Caicos twice, staying once at Club Med and once at Beaches, Dived 21 dives and another 2 at West Caicos. EXCELLENT! Huge schools of fish, eels, drop offs, Jo Jo the dolphin, 2 sharks (west Caicos), great dives, fantastic dive buddies (met them there), excellent vis, warm water, tons of fish, and in general, unfettered diving. My votes for T&C even though I've never been to Dominica.

Did you give the T&C Aggressor a thought? 5 dives a day, a lot of sites day boats don't frequent. Just a thought.

I've been to both places, several times. In general, the more undeveloped areas of T&C have better diving. Dominica is a far more beautiful place, more like a remote south sea island than a busy dive resort, which T&C can be at times. These islands are also flat, dry, and to my eye rather barren.

Dominica is wild and wonderful topside, a feast for all the senses, but it is a volcanic island with rapidly sloping sides that plunge into abyssal depths very quicky. The coral band around the island is consequently thin, and most of the bottom structure is boulders, encrusted big rocks, and small rocks. Not much coral sand anywhere. Still, I prefer Dominica. The number of dive sites is much smaller, but some are spectacular. Add to that the clear warm rivers, the seemingly endless rain forest, the parrots, the boa constrictors, and the fact that the population is small and the number of tourists tiny, and you have something unique in the Caribbean. It rains more in Dominica, and is frequently overcast. T&C is much sunnier, usually. Another thing: T&C is infested with Lionfish. There are far fewer in Dominica. Finally, T&C is easier to get to.
