I just thought I would post a link to a video the I produced for Tufi dive resort in Papua New Guinea.

My husband and I are considering PNG for our Christmas holidays and I have just started researching now. Seeing that it is so huge, it is split between 2 countries and internal transportation is not that easy I am a bit at a loss. I would therefore really appreciate it if you can share some ideas seeing that you have dove in the region before. We have dove around Asia we we keep coming back. We enjoy seeing large pelagic fish -as everyone!- but we do appreciate macro life such as nudis and the abundance of corals.


Do you have any suggestions you might like to share?

If you're going around xmas, you should see if it's possible to get on one the Golden Dawn's trips to the Eastern Fields. Diving the reefs of the Eastern Fields - Coral Sea - MV Golden Dawn You can find good reports on Wetpixel about this itinerary. We just came back from a trip on Star Dancer in north New Britain. A good number of sharks, tuna, jacks and barracuda. Actually, more tuna than I've seen on any other trip. Didn't see any manta or eagle rays. Golden Dawn is fantastic and the Eastern Fields trip I have heard is great. Another liveaboard that is also great is Febrina which has some amazing trips.

Regarding land based adventures I really enjoy Tufi over Kavieng and Medang and to be honest most other PNG locations due to its's diversity.

There is great access to wrecks, both planes (B52 Blackjack) and ships (SS Jacob), great reef diving and also great 'Fjord' / muck diving which is just off the dive centre. So you'll have big fish and small critters to boot!

Food and service is great too, as are the other lan based tours they offer.

Give Linda Honey a shout on tufidive@datec.net.pg and she will put together a great deal together for you. She will organise the internal flights and can also organise accomodation in Port Moresby if needed.

I work in Madang for seven months and can highly recommend it for large fish as well as the smaller stuff.
You will also find the transport easy to get around and reliable to and from the area.
Madang Resort offers good deals for xmas period as it is the quiet time. Most expats return home for the xmas holidays so you should be looking for specials. Often it is better to communicate and deal with the resort direct.

Just a suggestion, if you can't see a deal up for that period, ask for one.
Jas Aben is another resort in the Madang area and is situated in the middle of three Marine Parks.
It is beautiful but definately a different style of resort to Madang R which is situated in the main town and waterfront. J Aben did not have a dive shop operating when I left and am not sure if they have started to operate again.

Madang R has some great local staff and a manager who has been in the area for ten years. What they don't know is not worth knowing about the area and can certainly look after your needs. They also offer great deals on dive packages.

This is a typical day at barracudda point, also in there is magic passage.
Planet Rock is truly an amazing site as well, and not to be missed from any Madang trip with Hammerheads, Dolphin, orca, and marlin.

look for the little boxes as they are from jAPanese and chinese divers.
